It seems like everywhere you look, there's a Davids Tea store popping up. While that might be a bit of a hyperbole, there are currently eight Davids Tea retail locations in Calgary at the time of writing this post. (Another shop may very well open up tomorrow for all I know.)
Here's a look at Calgary's eight DavidsTea locations. Screenshot via Google Maps |
Suffice to say, there are a lot of DavidsTea stores in town (and, in fact, across Canada and the U.S.). And with a seeming endless list of tea flavours ("over 150" according to its website), it can be kind of overwhelming when shopping for tea as a celiac or vegan.
First, let me clear the air: all of their teas are gluten-free -- though there is one caveat. This screenshot from their website's FAQ section should clear things up:
But, since many of the brews available at DavidsTea contain milk products (and, quite rarely, eggs) it takes a bit more digging to figure out just what teas are ideal for plant-based picky bitches.
After extensive research on their website, in-store trial and error (including mistakenly drinking some of their dairy-laden birthday cake tea), and email correspondence with DavidsTea customer service reps, I've compiled a basic list of vegan-friendly teas based on the following guidelines sent to me by a DavidsTea customer service rep:
- None of their artificial or natural flavours contain animal-based ingredients
- None of their teas that state that they 'may contain milk' should be considered vegan.
And now, without further ado, here are the vegan-friendly teas available at DavidsTea stores across North America.* Enjoy!

* DavidsTea regularly introduces new teas and discontinues/phases out older flavours every season, so this list's shelf life may be limited. We will try to update this information on a seasonal basis.
