Day 2: For the little ones, cat lovers, and ugly sweater fans

By Giselle Wedemire

It's the second day of our 12 Days of Christmas (Shopping), and I have a confession to make: I harbour an unhealthy obsession with Blame Betty's merchandise. I'm always checking on their latest stock online, and I find myself craning my neck to ogle their display window whenever I walk past their store.

Tucked away on 17th Avenue SW, they provide retro-loving Canadians with the opportunity to live life like true rockabillies. If you had to boil the store down to a few choice interests, they'd be comprised of two parts pin-up culture, one part Mad Men-esque wardrobes, and one part zombie thriller movie.

You could easily spend all day ogling their vintage-inspired products, but here we've selected a few gift ideas that go above and beyond the usual awesome offerings:

For the cat lover:  Kitty Anti Pop heels by T.U.K. Shoes ($69)

I adore these T.U.K. shoes because they're vegan, they're comfortable and their 3-inch heels never feel too high, which makes them very easy to walk around in. It also doesn't hurt that these are covered with a pattern of cat faces, which means that the cat lover in your life will never have to be without a cat. It's purrfect!

For the little ones: Captain Awesome vinyl backpack ($39)

Got a little one -- or anyone, really -- who's awesome and knows it? We think this backpack is a great way to affirm that and let them (and the whole world) know that they are your very own Captain Awesome. And, best of all, it's made from vinyl, meaning no cows were harmed to produce the leathery look of the bag's face.

For the ugly sweater lover/H.P. Lovecrat fan: Cthulhu sweater ($86)

By now, we're willing to bet that almost everyone you know has a traditionally ugly Christmas sweater saved up for the holidays. But for those who like things a little bit different, we recommend reaching for this amazingly rad sweater that features the octopus-like god of author H.P. Lovecraft's short stories. Plus, this sweater's made of acrylic, so no critters were harmed to make this fantastic top.

You can find Blame Betty at 829 17 Ave SW, or online at BlameBetty.com.
